Summary of Experience:
Mr. Nickey is the former Assistant General Counsel for Intellectual Property at Cardinal Health. Additionally, he has also served as patent counsel for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Abbott Laboratories, and as a partner in the private practice of intellectual property law.
During over thirty years of practice, Mr. Nickey has been directly involved in the prosecution of more than 300 United States patents, as well as patents in virtually every country. Representative technologies include nutritional products, pharmaceuticals, transgenic inventions, drug dosage forms, packaging, medical devices, and rubber chemistries. Don has significant transactional intellectual property experience in the areas of due diligence, infringement and invalidity studies, patent opinions, intellectual property licensing, and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Nickey has supervised significant litigation matters involving major corporate issues, and has experience from both the plaintiff and defense perspectives in intellectual property.
In addition to the transactional and litigation practice of intellectual property law, Don is experienced in the strategy development and management of business IP programs of all sizes; including the set-up and management of IP portfolios, assessment of licensing strategies, and the corporate development of active business cultures favoring intellectual property development and protection.
